Villa Holmendammen

Our project Holmendammen is a dwelling located in a residential area on the west side of Oslo. The objective was to design a home with a view over the lake nearby, in combination with a program that suited the clients’ family.

On the site there is a low hill; the house was built on the lower part, so that it lies encircled and adapts to the local topography. The shape of the building also resonates with the landscape by its low cornice similar to the surrounding buildings and by a modern use of the traditional pitched roof. This concept is emphasized by large openings in the façade, making daylight a primary light source.

The ground floor consists of the main entrance, a kitchen, and a living room with a free ceiling height of three floors which is lit by a large skylight window. With the common areas on the ground floor, the upper floors consist of private spaces, with bedrooms on the first and a loft on the second floor. The program is expressed in the façade with an open and generous glass structure on the ground floor and a more enclosed timber cladding in the upper floors.
